For millennia, us Humans have been used clays externally or internally. Bentonite clay is one of the most available clays in nature, used therapeutically in many cultures and in modern times Clay have been a popular beauty ingredient that's been used to help cleanse, smooth, and brighten skin and hair. Particularly favourable for those who have oily or acne-prone skin.
Clay mask contain fine almost microscopic clay particles which are porous. This quality means that excess sebum (oil on skin), toxin and Impurities absorbed when the clay starts to set on your skin. When the mask is eventually washed off these impurities and toxins are washed away with the added benefit of the fine particle acting as an exfoliant, removing dead skin. The affect is your skin is soft and toned after you wash it off.Â
How to Apply
Before applying it's important to cleanse your face with your preferred cleaner and pat you skin dry;

- Apply the clay stick evening over the skin from forehead, nose, cheeks and jawline covering in an even layer.Â
- Allow for 15 minutes to dry..... a perfect time for a cheeky beverage (depending on thickness).Â
- Once it feels tight on the skin rinse off with warm water.Â
- For a deeper exfoliant experience rub off with fingers tips in a circular fashion. Â
- After all clay has been removed, apply your favourite moisturiser or serum to your face.Â
But Where's The Proof:
- "Bentonite clay has also shown to have anti microbial properties "These antibacterial effects might result from physical interaction (i.e. penetration or rupturing of the cell) and/or chemical interaction of the clay with bacteria (i.e. poisoning or nutrient deprivation)" which may attribute it being used for acne- prone skin in beauty products.
